Price cuts shake up gas market

Utility bills are set to be reduced in price as new cuts on gas and electricity have been reported.

British Gas is to implement a six per cent drop in costs for their electricity service in addition to a three per cent decrease in gas, it has been reported.

According to uSwitch.com, the body could afford to slash prices further in the near future, giving consumers £196 back in savings.

And Geoff Slaughter, energy product manager at the price comparison site, has claimed that the news is "refreshing".

"It seems to be a direct response to its customers," he said.

"The key thing now for consumers is not to become complacent about price cuts. We know that there is still scope for plenty more."

Meanwhile, French-owned utility company EDF Energy has announced that it will also look to incorporate a price drop in its services.
