People in ‘good mood to save’

More than half of adults in the UK were in the mood to save last month, a new survey has revealed.

Some 64 per cent of people were intending to save money. This is an increase of 8 per cent from the figure Legal & General's MoneyMood survey recorded in 2005.

Conversely, the mood to spend, as calculated by the company, stood at 24 per cent, it added.

And Claire Stracey, director of customer marketing at the organisation, claimed these statistics were partly due to the onset of the new Individual Savings Account market and partly also because people are managing their money in a more effective manner.

"These latest figures show the 'MoneyMood' of the nation is firmly in 'save' mode as we enter the Isa market this year," she said.

Last year, Credit Action estimated the total amount of UK personal debt to be £1.25 trillion.
