OFT looks to ‘Save Xmas’

The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) has launched a new campaign in Scotland in order to make sure consumers do not go short this Christmas.

'Save Xmas' is an initiative from the agency which comes in response to last year's collapse of Farepak, with 31,000 subsequently going without hampers as well as missing out on the money that they had invested in them.

Farepak went into administration on October 13th 2006 and its demise was met by protests outsides its gates four days later.

'Save Xmas' will be promoted via radio, leaflet and poster campaigns, with OFT spokesperson Kyla Brand hoping to raise savings awareness in time for the holiday season.

"The OFT is committed to working with such groups on the ground to increase knowledge and skills about savings, not only for this Christmas but for many more to come," said the official.

People worried about paying for Christmas could also look to take out personal loans.
