Expert: Gardens add value to properties
Mortgage holders who are looking to improve the value of their property may be interested to learn that one expert has suggested a garden can increase the attractiveness of a home, thus boosting its price.
Lucy Hall, deputy editor of BBC Gardeners' World Magazine, stated that families "are crying out" for some safe, green space.
"If you've got a reasonably large-sized garden, it can add up to 20 per cent to the overall value of the property, regardless of whether you're in town or country," she said.
And if homeowners are considering selling their property, they should make the most of their garden, Ms Hall advised.
The space should look tidy and professional, while flowers could add some much needed colour, she added.
According to research by Lloyds TSB, 55 per cent of mortgage holders have never checked their insurance policies to see if expensive garden items are included as part of the agreement.
