Easy access accounts not always straightforward

More than one in five easy access bank accounts can be accessed by just one method, according to new research.

Abbey Savings has found that 21 per cent of Isa accounts fall into this category, while 43 per cent offer two means for people to get to their money.

This may not be the case for other ways of gaining money. For example, some companies offer instantaneous loans.

It added that 51 per cent of hoardings offer internet access, with 53 per cent allowing consumers to bank by phone.

Some 49 per cent offer postal access, while 70 per cent give people their money at the branch itself.

"The account has to offer a form of management that you are both comfortable and experienced with," commented Alexia Kilby, head of savings at the company.

Abbey is the sixth biggest bank in the UK and was founded in 1944.
