Company calculates cost of a dad
New research has put a price on the value of a father, it has been reported.
According to Friends Provident, the jobs dads do around the house and elsewhere save a family around £12,914.
Taking on the role of a handyman, the patriarch can save £5,378.50 for his nearest and dearest - although if it goes wrong, loans are always available.
Dads who do the washing up and are proficient around the house can save a packet - £4,161.16 - while a saving of £546.78 can also be made if his work around the garden is taken into account.
And a father will often double up as a taxi driver and the company has calculated that his services behind the wheel total £4,164.16 - a fair amount more costly than a Father's Day present.
"If dad were unable to work a family would soon realise that money doesn’t grow on trees," said Mark Jones, protection and actuarial manager at Friends Provident.
Father's Day originated in Fairmont, West Virginia in 1908.
