Britons ‘keeping secret accounts from loved ones’
New research from Abbey has found that many Britons have an extra money pot - a current account secretly hidden from loved ones (Cashflo).
According to the company's current accounts division, 7.5 million people in the UK keep a secret stash that their partner is unaware of.
This is most common among 25 to 34 year-olds, it added, with people in the north-east most likely to have one.
And with recent findings from the Financial Services Authority showing that money is a sticky issue for three-quarters of couples, Abbey's head of banking, Steve Shore, has claimed that some things are best kept secret.
"Never share your chip and pin with anyone - even if you share a joint account with someone - and don't ever quote all your security details over the phone," he said.
A recent report in the Guardian has claimed that legal counsels are warning cohabitants to establish their rights before buying a home - in case of a break-up.
